Naturalistic tourism Corno alle Scale
Ideal place for lovers of naturalistic tourism, the Corno alle Scale Regional Park is part of a system of parks and natural reserves established by the Emilia-Romagna Region from the end of the 70s to protect territorial areas of high naturalistic and landscape value.
The Corno alle Scale Regional Park is spread over five thousand hectares of territory that encloses the highest peak of the Bolognese Apennines, that touches two thousand meters marked up to the summit by the layers of sandstone, hence the name “Scale” ( stairs).
The imposing ridge of Corno alle Scale constitutes the central axis of the protected area, it continues to the north in Monte La Nuda (1828 m), while to the east, stands Monte Gennaio (1812 m). Close to the two main inhabited centers, Lizzano in Belvedere and Vidiciatico, we find Monte Pizzo (1194 m) and Monte Grande (1531 m), respectively.
Walking along the many paths that characterize the area, away from chaos and noise, you can meet deer and roe deer, see the golden eagle circling in the sky or hear the wolf howling in the distance. Not only that, Corno alle Scale is also the ideal habitat for numerous rare and protected floristic species such as the delicate silver geranium, the precious alpine columbine or the imposing Martagon lily.
An organized network of paths, mule tracks and forest roads reaches the most significant environments and all the main peaks, offering a splendid opportunity for nature walks on the Corno alle Scale – to discover lakes and mountain lakes with clear waters, ancient villages of medieval origin, hiking and trekking in the woods and rocky ridges.
Corno alle Scale is also a renowned ski resort in the Bolognese Apennines. There are the slopes named after Alberto Tomba, on which the great Bolognese champion took his first steps and where he built much of his world success, and there are also numerous tracks for ski mountaineering, cross-country tracks and the modern snow park, where to try acrobatic evolutions on the snow board.
Helvetia Thermal Spa Hotel in Porretta Terme is the ideal place to combine a thermal wellness stay with a program of naturalistic excursions to discover the province of Bologna and the Park.
