The Labante Grottos
A few kilometers from Bologna, in the Municipality of Castel d’Aiano, you will discover one of the rarest existing karst phenomena. It is the largest primary travertine cave in Italy and perhaps one of the largest in the world: the Grotta di Labante. With its 51 mt. in length, the cave of Labante is a spectacular miracle of nature, inside which several tunnels and crevices dug have been discovered over the centuries, made by the natural action of water that has shaped plants and calcite crystals with the strangest shapes. Upon exiting, looking up at the natural waterfall that laps it, it will not be difficult to see a wonderful rainbow.

The Borgo di Tresana , with its houses built with stones, immersed in an ancient chestnut and beech grove, is located at an altitude of 930 meters, at the foot of Monte Tresca from which derives the name. Before reaching the village, don’t miss a stop along the Via dei Mulini. The Tognarino Mill on the Rio Fantin – a group of houses built around the old mill where chestnuts from the various local dryers. Finally, from the Mulino di Tognarino, a path (the 147A) descends towards the Silla river as far as the Porchia lake or further on to the Taccaia Mill, passing through the Masseré Mill.
The Borgo La Scola , where as soon as you arrive you will feel as you have suddenly gone back in time, and it is not rhetoric. All the houses date back to 1400/1500 and are exceptional examples of medieval architecture. Born as a military district and place of residence and defense of the monastic center of Montovolo, this village remained unscathed over the centuries. It had a great economic, commercial and religious importance, considering that your territory marked the border with the Lombard empire territory and for this reason it bears witness to the historical struggles between the Franks and the Lombards.
